        THE GRIFFIN STORY

The Griffin bistro opened its doors in 2021 in the heart of the beautiful village of Old Amersham. After an extensive restoration project, the historic site was elevated into an exquisite, fun bistro with relaxed vibes and exceptional interiors.

We pride ourselves on The Griffin experience: the highest quality food, locally sourced ingredients, delicious wines and cocktails, and amazing service from our talented team. It is the reason our guests return for more, time and again.

We hope you love visiting our bistro as much as we love to have you.

Your feedback and word of mouth is the lifeblood for independent establishments such as ours, so if you have visited, we would love to hear your experience. We read every review and are always looking at how we can be THE restaurant of choice in Buckinghamshire.

        HISTORY OF THE GRIFFIN

The Griffin is located in a late 17th century coaching inn that was once a popular stopover on the way from London to Oxford or Aylesbury. A traditional silver service restaurant in its heyday, it was once even reported to be dined in by Oliver Cromwell. Along the way, it began to lose its historic glory, having ultimately become a chain restaurant in the 1990s, but has now been reinstated to celebrate its original architecture and features but with a vibrant touch of flair and colour.

        MORE THAN A BISTRO

Our owner Joe knew the town needed a space that would be the heart of the community, and his vision was to create a Members Club for creatives, entrepreneurs and professionals to work, meet & collaborate. The Members Club is open on weekdays throughout the year.

In 2023, when he had the opportunity to take over offices on the first floor of The Griffin, Joe knew he could bring the space back to its former glory. Once the assembly room of the historic coaching inn, it would again serve its original purpose as an event space, offering picturesque views of the town's memorial gardens.

During the summer months, the outdoor terrace at the back of the bistro becomes a charming spot for alfresco dining, where patrons can unwind with a glass of wine.
